When somebody (like the reporter on FoxNews) says the big question is what was the motivation for the guy in Colorado to go on his shooting rampage, to me that is not the big question. (It's like asking what was the motivation for Charles Manson to orchestrate his murders... he's evil, or crazy, etc.) No, the big question is, why did the guy in Colorado have a gun? Why was he not on some sort of meds? If they expect some sort of rational explanation for an act of this kind, they are just as deluded as the perpetrator, or they're playing to a deluded audience.
