The Tao of Politics

One of my main concerns is: how can I make a difference? There are thousands of political blogs out there. It’s easy to get lost in that ocean. So I may blog about politics on occasion, or I may blog about health issues, depending on where my interests lead me, and where I feel I can contribute something of significance.

Health Notes
Have you been diagnosed with cancer? Have you thought about getting a second opinion?

The state of New Hampshire is offering free HPV shots to girls aged 11 to 18. Tell me this isn’t a case where politics and health intersect.

Organic food is better for you because it has less pesticide, right?

Are you trying to lose weight? Don’t make these five dieting mistakes.

Fish is good for your heart, unless, as we mentioned recently, you have heart failure! Then it can kill you.

Can obesity lead to irregular menstrual cycles and infertility in women?

If you are pregnant, how much weight you gain may have an effect on your pregnancy as well as on your baby.

Condoms? Read about condoms here.

Yes, tattoos can sometimes be dangerous.

Here is an article about the abortion pill, RU-486, and breast cancer.

FYI, here is an article about Huntington’s disease.

Is Tamiflu safe? Some people may think not.

Should the FDA develop nutrition labels? A good first step would be for the food producers to stop misrepresenting their products. A good second step would be for food producers to stop spending so much money brainwashing the public and selling them unhealthy food. And a good third step would be for someone to come in and tell the American people what is good for them to eat, and what is bad for them.

Tea extract has beneficial effects on skin damaged by radiation therapy. That is quite a claim. Just imagine the beneficial effects of tea extract on less extreme conditions.

There is some evidence to suggest that eating spinach may reduce the risk, among skin cancer survivors, of having a relapse.

Is an HIV vaccine in the offing? Maybe not before this decade is out.
