The Tao of Politics

One of my main concerns is: how can I make a difference? There are thousands of political blogs out there. It’s easy to get lost in that ocean. So I may blog about politics on occasion, or I may blog about health issues, depending on where my interests lead me, and where I feel I can contribute something of significance.

Spreading poverty and bird flu
Here is one consequence of government policy that makes the rich richer and the poor poorer (think George W. Bush, et al): farmers in Turkey have sick chickens. The government is supposed to come and help dispose of the chickens. The government doesn’t come, and the farmer doesn’t have enough money to take them in to be disposed of, so the birds stay there, and the disease ferments and festers.

Eventually bird flu may become a pandemic simply because the Third World is too poor to stop it. Thank you, all you advocates of supply side economics. How short sighted can you be? To quote a bumper sticker, we all do better when we all do better.
