The Tao of Politics

One of my main concerns is: how can I make a difference? There are thousands of political blogs out there. It’s easy to get lost in that ocean. So I may blog about politics on occasion, or I may blog about health issues, depending on where my interests lead me, and where I feel I can contribute something of significance.

Cotton farmers in India are still committing suicide at alarming rates. This article doesn’t really go into much detail about why. Sure, there is an $835 million relief package, but this article says many farmers were disappointed in the amount of aid available, and therefore committed suicide. It further goes on to say that the genetically engineered seed sold to farmers by Monsanto cost nearly four times what traditional seed cost, which presumably added to farmers’ indebtedness, and hence their despair. So much for biotech being the way to go. Oh, and the farmers may be dead, but I feel certain the crops are doing well.
